These are ok. They won’t stand up to a hard hit. After we shredded these we ordered a different brand that seems to stand up better. These are nifty little balls thanks to the range of color not generally available (and not accepted in tournament play), just to add a little bling to the game. These are the newer plastic 40's with a slightly rough surface. I bounce tested them against celluloid 40s as well as fresh celluloid 38s dropped from the same height; what I found is that these plastic balls have a dull and somewhat uneven bounce. The Halex celluloid 38mm balls had the most even bounce of my test group, and nearly even with that were celluloid 40s. The plastic 40s (both these Champion one star balls as well as a three star variety from a different manufacturer that I recently received for review) have extremely dull bounces, quickly falling to rest well before the celluloid balls finish bouncing, and seem to bounce differently depending upon what portion of the ball impacts the table on each bounce. A high speed video showed that the celluloid balls had a decay in bounce height that was predictably running along a smooth curve, while the plastic balls had more of a step-like decay due to some bounces leading to minimal rebound. Game play also suffers as a result, and family members were quick to notice the interesting color, but unfortunately just as quick to determine that predicting the ball's velocity and vector was difficult due to a feel like that of a dead tennis ball.I got these for our basement ping pong table which got a lot of use this summer when my kids were home from college. At first my boys were thrilled to get a giant bucket of balls because this meant that when one went under a sofa or what have you there would be no need for anyone to hunt for it, not with a big bucket of replacements at hand (sigh).BUT they quickly began to complain that not all of the balls were created equally. They said that some were dead, or some had imperfections that made them not "bounce right". Initially I figured that they were making excuses for bad shots but really the complaints continued throughout the summer. By the time school was starting up again, whatever balls were left were deemed not even good enough to take back to school for beer pong (and that's a low bar).I can report however that the cats are very happy with the cast offs and find them perfectly fine to chase after. After some internal debate I gave this bucket 3 stars because apparently about half of the balls were fine, and because it's a good price. The Champion Sports 1 star orange table tennis balls, made in China, are designed to provide better control and improved performance. This package comes with 6 40mm orange balls. We have a table tennis table at work, so I added one of these balls to the ball tray. The regular white balls are always used, no one will use this ball. I each of them out and the orange ball has less bounce and requires more effort. This may be partially due to the fuzzy texture of the ball, the only difference I can find.Champion Sports’ 1 star orange table tennis balls are definitely different. I don’t know if the reduced bounce is beneficial, but I do know no one at work likes these balls. It doesn’t matter how improved they are if no one wants to use them. As such, I would recommend purchasing other balls unless you are looking for less bounce and more control.PROS:Better controlImproved performanceLasts longerCONS:Reduced bounceWe grabbed these one-star balls for practice. However, the difference between these and our While these are fun looking balls geared towards recreational rather than competitive use, I don't think they quite make the grade. The Basketball, Tennis and Soccer patterns look cool, but the balls don't feel like high quality. These are '1 Star' balls suitable for recreational use at best and gimmicky due to the markings of other sports. If you want higher performance, you're going to need to pay for it. For simple fun with the family, then these are a decent choice.~ KortA large multipack of ping-pong balls. These are rated as recreational use-- the kind you want to match to that basement table tennis setup. There's a lot more than I personally expect to go through, but nice to have the extras. It is really convenient to have a big jar of ping pong balls, but we are slightly disappointed in these. While none of them have popped or collapsed, so they seem well made, they don't have the bounce that our other balls have and it feels like we are playing in slo-mo. I think they are lighter than we are used to. But if you have young kids and don't want the balls zooming around at mach speeds, maybe you prefer this type of ball. If so, they are perfect. They hold up well.
